25 years is a lifetime. In this period we fulfilled a dream and changed Mexico. With great effort, and risking everything, we opened the market to bring better options to the screens of millions of homes across the country.
It seems that it was yesterday when we presented our position in the Palacio Nacional. When we left, we thought that "surely we have lost." However, a short time later, I received the call from the Secretary of the Treasury who informed us that we had won the government media auction, the “Subasta de Medios.”
When the government decided to privatize what is now TV Azteca, the "experts" told us many things. "To sell TVs is not the same as making television.” That we would fail because we had “no experience in the business” and were “going against a monopoly"… and a long list of etceteras. In this way, we defied all the predictions.
This tremendous adventure has taken us on new roads, unknown to us at their beginnings. It is, of course, a great experience that fills us with pride and satisfaction in everything we have achieved together.
We won the auction because we offered 30% more than the next bidder, in addition to the millions of dollars that we have invested over the years so that we could reach the levels of excellence that we offer our audience today.
We revolutionized television and we all benefit— viewers, advertisers, our shareholders, talented actors and presenters, industry professionals, and even our competition— because we force them to be better.
We are proud to see what we have achieved because when we began, the company was in ruins. Today we work and create with excellence— and for the people who have accompanied me since we started this journey, for this I want to remind you that what we have achieved is a lot, and it is the foundation for what follows.
I am sure that the next 25 years will be even better because today we have a successful platform. Therefore, those who will take the helm of this company, led by Benjamin, will carry a greater responsibility on their shoulders.
Against all odds, and in the same way that the "experts" were wrong before, today I assure you that the Open TV industry has its best years to come and will be more alive than ever.
To all those who, in some way or another, have accompanied us on this great adventure, I thank and congratulate you, because it is rare to have the privilege and responsibility to enter millions of homes every day through television.
